Treasures of the World promotes masterworks of art and nature tells of some of the most engaging stories of history. Highlighting treasures cherished beyond value, the television series traces the historical background and growing fame of these cultural icons as they coincide with the events and personalities of their time: tales of misfortune and madness, insight and intrigue, adoration and discovery. The stories entwine dramatized events with evocative archival images and insights from collectors and curators. Each of these wonderful treasures is a masterpiece of exceptional beauty and artistry; each has shaped aesthetic sentiment or epitomized the accomplishments of an era. Six treasures are presented in three individual one-hour long segments.

A poetic portrait of the western coastline of Latvia that, accompanied by songs about fish and the sea, roaring of vessel engines and factory alacrity, gives a glimpse into the life by the sea where the smell of fish and sea water is still present.

A young swindler Roma deceives a wealthy old man out of his inheritance. Along with the property, he inherits four gnomes – good magical creatures capable of finding ancient treasures. But their power can only be used for good deeds. Roma, through deceit, begins to exploit them to get rich, but with each bad act, the power of the mysterious creatures wanes.
